Indian Advocate Speaks on Arbitration & Legal Cooperation at SCO Training Course in Shanghai
Representing the India Delegation of Lawyers, Advocate Nitesh Mehra participated in the SCO International Legal Training Course in Shanghai focused on arbitration, investment protection, and global legal cooperation.
Advocate Nitesh Mehra represented the India Delegation of Lawyers at the International Legal Training Course organised under the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) framework in Shanghai, China, where representatives from 12 countries participated in discussions on international trade law, arbitration, investment protection, digital governance, and global legal cooperation.
The programme was organised by the China Law Society in collaboration with the Shanghai University of Political Science and Law and the China National Institute for SCO International Exchange and Judicial Cooperation. It brought together legal scholars, judicial officers, arbitration experts, and delegates from SCO member nations and South Asian countries.
While speaking at the joint closing ceremony, Adv Mehra highlighted the growing importance of legal cooperation and multilateral engagement within the SCO framework. He stated that the organisation has emerged as an important platform for regional cooperation, economic connectivity, institutional development, and cultural exchange among member nations.
During the programme, delegates attended lectures and academic sessions on international investment law, dispute resolution mechanisms, intellectual property rights, environmental governance, transportation law, and the role of technology in judicial systems. Discussions also focused on China’s evolving legal governance model, digital economy regulations, and cross-border trade frameworks.
The delegation also visited the Shanghai Arbitration Commission and the Shanghai No. 2 Intermediate People’s Court, where participants observed the integration of technology within China’s judicial and arbitration systems, including online hearings, AI-assisted case management, and digital dispute resolution platforms.
Mehra noted that the programme emphasised the need for fair and transparent dispute resolution systems, stronger safeguards for the digital economy, and greater legal cooperation among developing nations. He further underlined the significance of institutional innovation and technological advancement in modern legal systems.
The programme additionally included cultural and heritage visits across Shanghai, allowing delegates to engage with the city’s historical and cultural legacy alongside academic discussions and legal exchange.
