Supreme Court Allows Filing of SIT Report in Gurugram Three-Year-Old Rape Case

New Delhi, May 11: The Supreme Court on Monday permitted the filing of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe report before a Gurugram court in connection with the horrific rape of a three-year-old girl.

The apex court, however, kept pending the plea filed by the victim’s father seeking a court-monitored SIT investigation, as it intends to further examine the role of government hospital doctors in handling such cases and the issue of compensation for victims.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi was informed by Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati, appearing for the Haryana government, that the court-appointed SIT of three senior women police officers had completed its investigation.

The Supreme Court appreciated the SIT for concluding the probe within the stipulated timeframe and allowed the chargesheet to be filed through the jurisdictional police station before the designated women POCSO court in Gurugram for further proceedings.

Earlier, the bench had sharply criticised the Haryana Police and Gurugram’s Child Welfare Committee for their “shameful”, “reckless” and “insensitive” handling of the case.

To ensure a fair and independent investigation, the court had constituted an SIT comprising senior women IPS officers — ADGP Kala Ramachandran, SP Dr Anshu Singla and DCP Jasleen Kaur.

The apex court also directed the Gurugram District and Sessions Judge to assign the case to a special POCSO court headed by a woman judicial officer.

Expressing serious concern over the handling of the matter, the Supreme Court had remarked, “Shame on you! Is this the way the state deals with crime? The child has undergone more horrifying repeated experiences than the crime itself.”

The court observed that the investigation conducted by police officials, from the commissioner of police to the sub-inspector level, reflected a “concerted and unwarranted attempt” to discredit the minor victim’s version and portray the concerns raised by her parents as exaggerated.

According to police, the child was allegedly sexually assaulted over a period of nearly two months by two female domestic workers and their male accomplice at a residential society in Gurugram’s Sector 54.

Following allegations made by the victim’s parents, an FIR was registered on February 4 under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at Sector 53 police station.

Police said the alleged incidents took place between December 2025 and January 2026, but the matter came to light only after the child disclosed the abuse to her mother.
