Greater Noida Woman’s Death Under Suspicious Circumstances Sparks Dowry Allegations
A 24-year-old woman in Greater Noida died after allegedly falling from the terrace of her matrimonial home, with her family accusing her in-laws of dowry harassment and murder. Police have arrested her husband and father-in-law as investigations continue.
A 24-year-old woman allegedly died after falling from the terrace of her three-storey matrimonial home in Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Buddh Nagar district, with her family accusing her in-laws of dowry harassment and murder. Police said the incident took place on Sunday night in Jalpura village under the Ecotech-3 police station area of Greater Noida.
According to police, the deceased, identified as Deepika, had been married to Hrithik for around one and a half years. A case has been registered under provisions related to dowry death following a complaint filed by her father, Sanjay Nagar. Deepika’s husband Hrithik and father-in-law Manoj have been arrested, while efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining accused named in the FIR.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Shailendra Kumar Singh said Deepika died after allegedly falling from the terrace of the house. Police added that videography of the post-mortem examination would be conducted and relevant sections would be added based on the findings of the investigation.
In his complaint, Deepika’s father alleged that his daughter had called him on Sunday afternoon crying and informing him that her in-laws were assaulting her over dowry demands. He claimed the family had been demanding a Toyota Fortuner SUV and an additional ₹45-50 lakh in cash.
Sanjay Nagar said that around 7 pm, he and several relatives visited Deepika’s matrimonial home in an attempt to resolve the dispute through discussion. However, around 12:30 am, the in-laws allegedly informed them that Deepika had fallen from the roof and asked them to reach Sharda Hospital. “When I reached the hospital, I found my daughter lying dead,” he said.
The family further alleged that Deepika’s body bore multiple injury marks. Her father claimed there were wounds resembling injuries caused by a screwdriver. He also alleged inconsistencies in the in-laws’ statements regarding the incident. “First they said she fell from the stairs, later they said from the roof,” he claimed, alleging that his daughter was murdered and later thrown from the terrace.
Deepika’s uncle Sunil Nagar alleged that the bride’s family had spent nearly ₹1 crore on the wedding, including gifting a Mahindra Scorpio N, gold jewellery, and cash. According to the family, the demands for a Fortuner SUV and additional cash began soon after the marriage in December 2024.
Speaking to reporters, Deepika’s aunt Geeta Devi alleged that Deepika had been pushed from the building and claimed she may have been stabbed or shot when she survived the fall. Another relative, Kuldeep, demanded strict action against the accused and alleged prolonged harassment over dowry demands.
Police said seven people were named in the complaint and investigations are ongoing. Officials stated that the woman’s husband and father-in-law have been taken into custody and further arrests are expected soon.
The incident has once again brought attention to alleged dowry-related deaths in Greater Noida. In another case reported in August 2025, a woman named Nikki Bhati was allegedly set ablaze by her husband and in-laws over a dowry demand of ₹36 lakh.
